Are you looking for holistic support during your pregnancy and childbirth?
Contact Science of Birth for comprehensive Doula Services.
My passion, as a Doula, is to focus on my clients. I aim to build a deeply rooted connection throughout their pregnancy. I can then give the best support during labour, birth and the postpartum period.
I dedicate my experience and knowledge to empower parents. I want them to lay down a healthy and strong basis for their parenting journey.
What role does a Doula have during pregnancy, labour and beyond?
• The expecting woman and family employs the Doula privately to support and respond to her needs.
• A Doula does not replace or exclude the father, partner or other family members.
• A Doula gives emotional, practical and informational support during the journey of becoming a parent.
• A Doula has the luxury of sharing the full scope of information with you without being burdened by time limits, the bias of certain policies and procedures, "birth politics" or managerial challenges.
• A Doula does not aim to take the place of a midwife or doctor but to work together, to care together for the expectant mothers and families.
• An excellent Doula has the skills to facilitate making objective and informed decisions, encouraging and empowering the family to be more in control, therefore enabling confident birthing, better birth outcomes and a healthier future generation.
There can be many reasons why a family or an expectant mother choose to have a Doula. It is a very personal decision for everybody.
I am working for you, not for an institute. Therefore, I have the freedom to stand up for your birthrights and I am proud to do so.
I have the luxury of being able to represent your personal wishes and advocate your voice throughout your journey to parenthood.

Doula Care - Mothering the birthing couple
Why is it important to have a trained birthing companion?
This is why a doula's skilled presence can be crucial during labour:
Doulas are there to support the birthing mother as well as the father. Fathers are vulnerable too since they may have never seen their partner in labour before. It can be difficult to see their partner in challenging situations and feel "useless" or "helpless". A good Doula is able to care for the couple with compassion and understanding.
Women in labour tend to trust other women. A well-intentioned compassionate father who has never seen labour might encourage his wife to accept or request pain medication or an epidural that she could do without. At the time, the mother might be grateful but later they mostly regret this and express disappointment that they did not get the encouragement they needed to get through that very rough point in labour.
To have a friend present as a birthing companion is a lovely, reassuring emotional element, however they would probably look worried when the labouring woman, during the second stage would suddenly express that “she cannot do it anymore” and looked to their companions for help. That's the point where a Doula is able to gently support the mother through this challenging time.
